World-Renowned Dr. Deb Bennett Keynote Speaker at WDCTA Annual Conference & Awards Banquet March 5, 2016

Country Springs Conference Center, Waukesha, WI

Deb Bennett

One of the world’s leading authorities on equine conformation and biomechanics will be the keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Dressage and Combined Training Association’s (WDCTA) annual education conference March 5 at the Country Springs Conference Center in Pewaukee, WI. The conference is open to the public.

Dr. Deb Bennett, who has a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and, until 1992, was with the Smithsonian Institution, is a regular columnist in Equus magazine and author of the books “Principles of Conformation Analyisis” and “Conquerors: The Roots of New World Horsemanship.” She is known for her research, writing and teaching about how a horse’s musculoskeletal system functions and how it relates to movement and training.

Biomechanics and Training

Dr. Bennett’s conference presentation will cover the anatomy and biomechanics of a horse’s movement, focusing on collection. She will discuss training devices and how many are used incorrectly and are not only impediments in training, but unnecessary.

At the evening dinner, Dr. Bennett will discuss the history of European court horsemanship from the 16th through 18th centuries and will reveal some surprises about what the old masters normally practiced and why some were truly revolutionaries in training. She will also cover the links between competitive dressage and other forms of equestrian competition.

KM Chapter Hosts a Whimsical Horse Painting Social Oct 2015

Melinda DeLuca

KM Chapter Social

We thought it would be fun to have a horse related social event without horses.

We were right! Everyone who went had fun. The studio sketched in the outline of the horses head, and then they walked us through the steps to complete the painting. Even I, with no painting experience, left with a completed painting. A few members obviously had talent and experience as was seen by the quality of their paintings. I am not planning on hanging my painting in my living room but I had fun creating it with friends. Also unknown to us when setting up the date, it was trick-or-treating in downtown Waukesha businesses. So while we painted they were lots of visitors admiring our work and getting a treat.

Results for June 2015 Capital Mini Event

Sadly, due to the wet conditions, we had to drop cross country and only run the CME One (June) as a 2 phase event only (dressage and stadium jumping). Clinic riders did get to preview the cross country course and jump some of the fences with better footing on Saturday. NOTE: all riders from the mini-event are invited to school the cross country course at The Horse First FREE. Just call Kelly Messera to make arrangements!
