This clinic started at Donna Destrampe’s Farm in Chassell with two horses there late Saturday morning, Then off to Highland Stables in Dodgeville to work with a couple of young riders, Molly and Erin McKenzie. Finally, the day ended at Caspary Farm in Dollar Bay with 4 rides.

Rain threatened all afternoon Saturday along with high winds. No indoor at Caspary Farm, so we kept our fingers crossed that we wouldn’t get wet. We had to dress warm, but no rain!

We enjoyed Orrie’s positive instruction, infectious laugh, and good eye in helping us. She was warned prior to her driving the 4 hours to the Keweenaw to pack warm clothes, rain clothes, and warm boots. Lake Superior doesn’t allow our area to experience “hot” weather until sometime in June, if we are lucky! Several of us went to dinner at a local restaurant Saturday night and got to know a little bit more about Orrie.

The forecast for Saturday overnight was rain, but fortunately for us, the weather forecasters were off by many hours. Sunday arrived with a light mist and then a thunderstorm 45 minutes prior to the first outside lesson. The first lesson, the footing was fairy dry, but by the end of the fourth lesson, we had big puddles, but the riders kept riding, and Orrie kept teaching.

She did have her rain gear on – a huge poncho – and she stayed dry. We enjoyed a potluck lunch and great conversation before sending Orrie off to her final two lessons at Donna’s place before she headed back to Green Bay.
