How is the best way to be successful participating in the Annual Awards Programs?

What is the difference between the Recognized Program and the Schooling Program?
Three key differences: 1) the Recognized Program requires that scores be earned at USEF/USDF-recognized competitions whereas the Schooling Program scores must be earned at Schooling Shows, 2) the Recognized Program will accept scores from “r” judges through 2nd level, “R” judges 4th level, and scores “S” judges through Grand Prix. The Schooling Program only requires judges to be at least “L” candidates from a USEF Program, and 3) the Schooling Program only goes through Second Level while the recognized program goes up to Grand Prix.
Why can’t a horse & rider combination enroll in both the Schooling and Recognized Programs?
The Schooling Program is designed to provide an opportunity for emerging riders and those without the means to participate in recognized shows. For more advanced riders, we provide the Recognized Program.
Why isn’t Western included in the Schooling Program?
WDEA has a program specifically for Western Dressage. It would be redundant to include Western in the Schooling Program.
Why is the program so expensive?
It’s not! We only charge $25 for a single entry. Also, now that we have a schooling awards program, members have the opportunity to participate in less costly schooling shows.
Which test(s) should I ride for my level?
If you are competing as a Maiden rider, you can ride any test(s) at a given level. However, if you are competing for the level Championship, you must submit at least one score from the highest test at that level. To be considered the Champion, you must demonstrate satisfactory riding even at the hardest test at that level.
Why aren’t Breed-Specific show scores permitted?
WDEA seeks to provide the most fair competitive environment. In the interest of fairness, we require scores to be obtained at shows that are open to all our members.

Why can’t virtual shows be included in the Schooling Program?
It is imperative that we provide an even playing field for all participants in our annual awards program. Virtual shows do not require the same degree of rigor as on-site shows. Also, virtual shows allow both horse and rider the convenience and comfort of riding in their home environment, providing an advantage vs. having to deal with all the uncertainties of showing at a neutral venue.
Why is it a requirement for both the horse owner and rider to be members of WDEA?
That is no longer a requirement! We received feedback that requiring the horse’s owner to be a member was limiting participation. After reviewing other programs, we have removed that requirement. We still require the rider to be a member in good standing because this program is intended to be a benefit for our members.
When should I submit my application for annual awards?
The annual awards year runs from December 1 to November 30th of the following year. To be eligible for the program, your application must be submitted by email or postmarked at least one day prior to the first score you wish to use for the program. It is understood that you may not achieve qualifying scores at every show or even every season. However, to be fair, we require that applications be submitted prior to obtaining any scores you wish to be included. Additionally, we do not allow refunds after the application has been submitted. Please bear that in mind prior to submitting your application.
When do I submit my scores?
The season ends on November 30th. You have until November 30th to submit your qualifying scores. However, you may submit them as soon as your show season concludes.
